VA Film Festival Year Round Movies

The Virginia Film Festival is presenting Moonlight Movies, a series of FREE screenings at locations throughout the Charlottesville area this summer. All VFF Moonlight Movies screenings are free and open to the public, and will begin at sundown (approximately 8:30 p.m.).

Idina Menzel rose to prominence when she originated the role of Maureen Johnson in the Broadway musical Rent, a role which she reprised for the 2005 feature film adaptation of the musical. She received a Tony Award nomination in 1996 for her performance in Rent. In 2004, she won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for originating the role of Elphaba in the Broadway musical Wicked. She made her return to Broadway in the 2014 musical If/Then. She was nominated for the 2014 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her performance in If/Then.

Fridays After Five, presented by Bud Light, continues to be Charlottesville’s favorite live concert series. 2015 will be the 28th year of free live music and fun.  The first event will kick off at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion on April 17th and will run each Friday thereafter ending on September 11. Each week volunteers work the concessions on behalf of a variety of local non-profits who share in the proceeds, which raises tens of thousands of dollars to support their work in our community. The spring and summer schedule features local artists of myriad musical styles; there is something for everyone! Unwind Friday evenings at this fabulous and FREE Charlottesville institution.

Night of Worship Benefit Concert

A Night of Worship benefit concert for Amy Helbert will be held on Friday, July 17 at Fluvanna County High School.  Amy was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and this concert is a benefit for her and her family. Silent auction from 5:00-7:00. The concert will begin at 7:00. RC PAWS

On Saturday, July 18th, 2015, the Fluvanna County Radio Control Flying Club (FCRCFC) will host RC PAWS – A Festival for the Animals at the club’s field adjacent to the Fluvanna County Landfill. RC PAWS – A Festival for the Animals will be a major radio control flying event coupled with a fundraiser for the Fluvanna SPCA (www.fspca.org), Peaceful Passings (www.peacefulpassings.org), and Caring for Creatures (www.caringforcreatures.org) animal welfare organizations in Fluvanna County. The rain date will be Sunday, July 19th.

The event will run from 9 AM to 4 PM. Throughout the day, pilots from the FCRCFC and other nearby radio control flying clubs will have airplanes in the air – small ones, big ones, slow flying trainers and hot aerobatic machines, one-of-a-kind designs and scale military and civilian aircraft, helicopters -just about anything that flies is likely to be take to the air at some time during the event!

The aerobatic demonstrations are just part of the fun. Caring for Creatures, Fluvanna SPCA, and Peaceful Passings will all be on site with information and adoption events! In addition, there will be several pet services related vendors on site, a moon bounce and other activities for children, food vendors South Fork Food Truck and Kona Ice Charlottesville, and opportunities to get some stick time on a club trainer. Local bluegrass band Grass and Eclectic will provide great music from about noon to 2 PM or so.

The FCRCFC is requesting a $10.00 donation as the price of admission to RC PAWS.

An added attraction will be a huge raffle, with proceeds going to the beneficiaries. With raffle prizes like overnight stays at local bed and breakfasts, recreation tickets for Wintergreen Resort, a fire pit from Plow and Hearth, and MUCH more, there will be many opportunities to win, and you’ll want to buy lots of raffle tickets.
