The most recent Republican to represent Virginia in the U.S. Senate has endorsed a Democrat who’s trying to win a second term. Former Senator John Warner (pictured), who will turn 87 next month, wants to see Democrat Mark Warner stay in Washington. He says Virginia will benefit from the freshman Democrat gaining additional seniority. Former Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie is trying to end Mark Warner’s career on November 4th. John Warner has told the online publication Politico he has nothing against Gillespie, who he describes as a fine, reputable strong candidate.  Gillespie and Fairfax businessman Shak Hill are competing for the GOP nomination which will be decided June 7th in Roanoke.
