King Celebration Events Planned

The University of Virginia and the rest of the local community will again commemorate the legacy of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with several events from January 17th to the 31st. The schedule begins Sunday, January 19th at 5 p.m. with the 29th Community Celebration at the Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church. Retired University president John Casteen will be the guest speaker. NPR host Michael Eric Dyson will speak January 23rd. January 31st will see the world premier of “Honoring Rita Dove: An American Poet,” a documentary on the life and contributions of UVA English professor and poet Rita Dove. She’ll be introduced at the Paramount Theater by Boyd Tinsley of the Dave Matthews Band.
