UVA’s Governing Body Considers Creating Predictable Tuition Levels

Some members of the University of Virginia’s Board of Visitors want to make predictable tuition amounts a top priority. John Griffin, who chairs a Board of Visitors subcommittee, believes UVA needs to figure out a way to establish tuition levels for a multiyear period. For a variety of reasons, including a major decline in support from the state government, families who send their kids to UVA have seen tuition nearly double over the past decade. During the administration of former President John Casteen, the University established a financial aid package known as AccessUVA. The Board of Visitors has had an active debate over AccessUVA during the past several years.
