Virginia Tech Wrestler Drowns At Old Quarry Site

A member of the Virginia Tech wrestling squad drowned in a former quarry. The Blacksburg school says Darren Hankins died Wednesday evening in a drowning accident a few miles from the Virginia Tech campus. The 21-year-old Hankins was a 21-year-old graduate of Hickory High School in Chesapeake. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says bystanders tried to help Hankins but their efforts were unsuccessful.
